THE MAGUS DECK AND HOW TO USE IT

The cards themselves and the imagery portrayed symbolize the mythical world of Balhundorra - the Shadowlands, its landscapes, and inhabitants. This world maps your own deep unconscious realm. The place we often visit in dreams.

The use of the deck is based upon the notion that all Truth already resides within us. I call it the wisdom of the heart. In other words, we already have our own inner wise counsel waiting to assist us along our life’s journey. Again, symbolized by everything in the deck.

It is not like the tarot or any other device of that nature. In fact, it is unique in that it allows the user to explore their issues directly and receive immediate help through the card’ illustrations and explanations. Regular use will also allow you to understand the cards instantly without a need for the book’s explanations.

There are many spreads that specifically address major life’s issues (these will be shared over time) however I would like to begin with the simplest and perhaps the most direct.

It’s called Morgana’s Bow after one of Balhundorra’s inhabitants and main archetypes. Morgana is the supreme creatrix.

You can also refer to this spread simply as ISSUE – SOLUTION - OUTCOME or I.S.O.

Let’s begin – I like to set up a small ritual, but this is entirely up to you.

Example: A quiet place, a candle, a clean cloth to spread the cards upon – then setting your intention.

What quest would you like to embark upon to seek the help you need?

I refer to it as a quest and not a question.

There are no Yes/No answers in this deck - rather you will be presented with certain truths and the suggested journey you should take to achieve the wisdom you seek.

Here’s a very basic example: If your issue is about increasing finances, perhaps you would phrase you quest this way –

‘What do I need to know to increase my wealth? Or what is blocking me from increasing my wealth?’ So what are the steps needed to achieve my goal?

In other words, “Will I be wealthy.” Will not help you as that’s a Yes/No answer.

This is an important point as the way your phrase the quest allows your inner wisdom to activate and respond in a practical, truthful way.  Your sincere search for what is true for you is everything.

Next take out the cards and remove the Dark and Light Shadow cards – these are not relevant in a spread. They are there to guide you should you be uncertain as to the use of the deck with a particular quest. Example: Sometimes we are tempted to ask about another. We must ask permission about invading another’s space. Also, to go on seeking after you have already had answers will not be productive. The Dark Shadow NO and the Light Shadow YES will allow you to see what is appropriate. Beyond this these cards should never be used within a spread as they will confuse you.

How to use the mini deck

This abbreviated version of the classic Magus Deck has been created for those who may want a pocket edition they can carry and use anytime for any situation.

It is designed with 'people on the go' in mind.

Please be aware that this is not the full deck yet it contains clear answers about imminent issues.

A good example might be  - you are having a quick break right before - a meeting, an interview, an audition…or any kind of appointment.

You desire more clarity to further center yourself so :-

Once you have your quest in mind choose three cards.

On card one - you read the ISSUE you are facing.
On card two - you read the SOLUTION - what you need to do about it.
On card three - you read the OUTCOME - what to expect if you have followed the advice of card two the solution.
